More than 700 people participated in the 9th edition of the Marina WalkTrail to raise funds for Alzheimer's and other dementias.
The Marina WalkTrail has once again surpassed its participation record. In its ninth edition, the charity Nordic walking event organized by the Amics de l'Hospital del Mar Foundation, which this time, for the first time, had the support of the Pasqual Maragall Foundation, mobilized over 700 people. They hiked through the Sierra de la Marina in Santa Coloma de Gramenet with a charitable purpose: to raise funds for conducted by researchers from the Hospital del Mar Research Institute and the Brain Research Center of the Pasqual Maragall Foundation.
Participants could choose between two circular routes in the Marina Mountains. One was 5 kilometers long, passing through the Monastery of San Jeroni de la Murtra, a gem of Catalan Gothic architecture founded in the 15th century, where tradition claims that the Catholic Monarchs received Christopher Columbus after his first voyage to America. The other route, 11 kilometers in length, reached the Iberian settlement of Puig and Castellar, an emblematic and identity-symbolic site for Santa Coloma de Gramenet, from which the Barcelona coastline can be seen. Altogether, it was a way to exercise and connect with the city's nature and history.
This sports event would not have been possible without the support of the Dr. Emili Mira Mental Health Center and the collaboration of the La Mar de Saludable program of Hospital del Mar, as well as the cooperation of the Diputación de Barcelona and the City Council of Santa Coloma de Gramenet. Desigual, Caprabo, Tecnisample, Fríobox, Sphere Pro, Las Nueces de California, and Sodexo also contributed to the event.
