The Amics de l'Hospital del Mar Foundation has been working for years to transform waiting rooms into more welcoming spaces with the aim of offering patients and their families a closer and more humane assistance.

This year, thanks to the commitment and support of the Antoni Serra Santamans Foundation, patients hospitalized on the 50th floor of Hospital del Mar and their families and companions will be able to enjoy a more comfortable and approachable space.

The new room will have a space suitable for the needs of users, with the philosophy of offering them an area where they feel 'at home'. The space, designed and directed by Estudi Aura, will feature warm colors, comfortable furniture, partitioned areas, and spaces for conversation, reading, or simply enjoying moments of intimacy. And all with extraordinary views of the Mediterranean Sea.

This initiative has its origins in the co-creation processes implemented to understand the needs and experiences of center users, to identify possibilities for improvement, and for the use and design of spaces and equipment. In this sense, the conceptualization of living rooms is based on understanding these spaces as meeting, disconnecting, and relaxation areas for patients and their companions.

Currently, Hospital del Mar already has four waiting rooms transformed into living rooms. Two of them on the hospitalization floors 40 and 70, another one in the ICU, and one for patients waiting to receive chemotherapy treatment, Domum MAR.

Domum Mar Space All this has been possible thanks to the collaboration of the Antoni Serra Santamans Foundation, the Nous Cims Foundation, the company Palex Medical, and the donations made by anonymous and supportive individuals who, together with the Friends of Hospital del Mar Foundation, aim to improve the physical, emotional, and social well-being of patients and their families.
