Hospital del Mar promotes music therapy in mental health.

The Fundació Amics de l'Hospital del Mar and the Catalan company Laboratorio Reig Jofre have reached an agreement to promote music therapy in the sub-acute mental health unit at the Centre Fòrum of the Hospital del Mar. The project is already underway, thanks to the collaboration from Reig Jofre, which reflects the company's ongoing commitment to improving the quality of life for individuals and patients, making a positive impact on vulnerable communities.

The initiative aims to bring music therapy to individuals in the center with the goal of improving the participants' relationships and bonds, as well as their self-esteem and psychopathological well-being. It also seeks to reduce apathy, promote sensory stimulation, encourage communication and expression, and foster the development of communication and social skills.

The sessions, involving groups of about fifteen patients, are conducted by the Institut Català de la Musicoteràpia, with supervision from professionals at the Institut de Salut Mental of the Hospital del Mar. Music therapy is an artistic and creative therapy with elements that produce effects and reactions in the brain, making it a valuable tool for stimulation and rehabilitation. This space allows for increased body and emotional awareness, communication work, and promotes interpersonal interaction.

Hospital del Mar has extensive experience in the use of music therapy for psychiatric patients, with successful projects implemented at the Centre Emili Mira, as well as for patients in the Palliative Care Unit and for critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit. These initiatives are part of the institution's humanization policy, in collaboration with the Fundació Amics de l'Hospital del Mar.
